Low Boiling Solvent Stripping System

Proven process technologies for sustainable operations

Technip Low Boiling Solvent Stripping System is engineered for the efficient removal and recovery of volatile, low-boiling solvents such as methanol, ethanol, and acetone etc low boiling solvents from industrial wastewater and process condensates. The system significantly improves downstream Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) performance, enhances condensate quality, and ensures compliance with stringent environmental norms.

Key Features

and Operation

Stripping Column Process

  • The process condensate or effluent is preheated in a reboiler, generating vapor that enters the stripping column from the bottom, while the liquid feed enters from the top.
  • Inside the column, intensive mass transfer occurs between the rising vapor and descending liquid, allowing low-boiling solvents to separate into the vapor phase.

The vapours are then condensed in the overhead condenser , recovering the low-boiling solvent mixture. A portion of this condensate is returned as reflux to maintain column efficiency and control solvent concentration in the effluent.

Optimized Packing Design

  • Technip’s systems utilize customized internals such as structured packings, random packings, or trays carefully selected based on effluent characteristics, TDS levels, and solvent composition.
  • This design ensures maximum vapor–liquid contact, high stripping efficiency, and stable operation even with variable feed conditions.

Seamless Integration with ZLD & MEE: Positioned upstream of Multi-Effect Evaporators (MEE) or Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) units, the stripping column efficiently removes volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and low-boiling solvents that contribute to COD and foaming.

  • This integration improves thermal performance , reduces fouling and scaling , and minimizes heat transfer area requirements in downstream evaporators.

Efficient Solvent Recovery

Recovers valuable low-boiling solvents for reuse or safe disposal—lowering waste, operating costs, and raw material loss.

Enhanced Condensate Quality

Delivers condensate water quality suitable for recycling or discharge by significantly reducing COD, VOCs, and odor-causing compounds.

Energy-Efficient Operation

Can utilize waste heat from MEE or other plant sources, reducing overall energy consumption and carbon footprint.

Reliable & Flexible Design

Robust construction suitable for continuous operation, adaptable to varying solvent loads, and easy to retrofit or expand for future capacity needs.

Improved ZLD System Performance

Reduces fouling and scaling in evaporators, improving uptime and reducing maintenance costs for downstream ZLD units.

Applications

Widely used in API, pharmaceutical, chemical, agro-chemical, and specialty chemical industries for efficient ammonia removal and improved ZLD system performance.
